Who's Up For A Challenge?

Who is up for a challenge?

The challenge for June is Drinkware!

Most drinkware requires some amount of drilling which Jim's demo on drilling explained.

A few points to consider for this challenge:
  • The key for this challenge is to think about what drink your piece is designed for, and make it for a specific kind of drink, which should be indicated on your challenge card.  You can just say - beer, white/red wine, orange juice, or my kitty's water dish, etc.
  • Goblets, mugs, tumblers, shot glasses, etc. are great, but if you don't want to hollow, bottle stoppers and openers are also acceptable.  Or you can go big with a decanter or pitcher if you want. Anything made for a certain beverage is acceptable.
  • You are encouraged to make something new for your drink of choice, but if you have a favorite mug or something you made that you use regularly for a specific beverage and has a turned component, that is also acceptable.
  • It does not have to be functional (ex: ornamental teapot), but if you are making something you intend to use, clean, and use again, and you are unsure how to finish the inside for liquids, please come talk to me and I will help you. Remember alcohol is a solvent and can dissolve some finishes over time.  I use a food-safe epoxy finish (Liquid Glass) slow turned while curing for the inside of my drinkware, but there are lots of options. For something hot like coffee, you might want to use a stainless steel insert. Your interior finish should relate to the beverage it is made for if you intend for it to be used.  If you have questions about this please talk to me and I will help you.
  • You can earn extra credit by making a set, but the amount of extra credit you get will depend on pieces being the same size and number of pieces in the set. (ex: sake set)
